October has 47 days, right?

16 Nov 2024

All jokes aside, October was a fairly dull month. Everything we were waiting on when I wrote my previous blog entry has come through—except those job interviews. :( Both of us are still ardently searching for employment. In fact, once I am done updating this little website today, I'll be emailing a host of places I have applied to but not heard back from in hopes that it will spur them to actually at least look at my application.

In other news, we've found a different bar nearby that we vastly prefer to the first one we went to (which was in fact the first bar I personally had ever visited!), as it's much cozier and the bartenders are more personable. We certainly miss going to the pub down the road, but such is the struggle of being between jobs. Culinarily, we have discovered two incredible recipes, the S&B recipe for Japanese-style curry and an original recipe I devised with pastina which I will post to the Recipes section later. I also managed to burn some stew. Don't ask.

We have also had some fun with photography! My partner lent me her Canon A1 and more or less gave me her old Mamiya 6. Unfortunately, our C41 chemistry seems to have expired as the roll of Harman Phoenix in 120 I shot on a photo walk came out very oddly red, so I haven't been able to see any of the other colour film I've shot. On the upside, I've learned black-and-white wet printing which I find incredibly fun and stimulating! I have even created an Instagram (@trustworthy.tomato) to showcase selected photos I have taken.

On the TV and movie front, I have been shocked and appalled (/hj) to find that Phase 1 of the MCU is... actually good? (We skipped Hulk, of course.) However, I must say that the subjective quality really seems to drop off after Captain America: Winter Soldier; I found Guardians of the Galaxy especially grating, albeit short, and Age of Ultron felt rushed and mis-named, but at least it had a memorable villain. My hopes aren't exactly high for Phase 3—I cannot stand Civil War hardly at all. On a much more positive note, I have really been loving House, M.D. We're already midway through Season 2 and I am excited for more misadventures in medical malpractice and House's personal life.

Until next time!
